When you turn off the main drive and onto Madrone, you are instantly dwarfed by towering redwoods. This park among the majestic giants has been enjoyed for many years. It is cool and shady and borders on a creek. The fencing along the road is not very secure and there is no way to keep a running toddler in. There is a large hexagonal sand box, 5 toddler full-bucket swings, 4 big kid swings, a long curly metal slide that’s a hoot and shorter slides of plastic and metal. You must try the great old merry-go-round and there are several climbing structures and monkey bars. The entire area is covered in a bed of soft sand mixed with pine needles. A small picnic area sits inside one end of the playground.
Vintage merry-go-round that will bring back memories.
Limited street parking.
The marginal fencing can be a problem for kids who are not under voice control.
This is not the easiest place to find but well worth investigating. It is tucked away deep in the neighborhood accessible through a narrow path or steep stairs which appear as a driveway between the homes. Once inside you will discover a large area with a fun playground, basketball court, picnic barbecue area and a manicured field. There are two big kid swings, a tire swing and no toddler full-bucket swings. Mind the step up approaching the two play structures that are composed of metal and plastic with several slides. Under the play structures lies soft padding and clean sand. Limited shade.
Daring children can’t run too far out of sight.
This is a fun park with a broad layout and many advantages. In the playground section there is separate play equipment made of plastic and metal for toddlers and big kids on soft clean sand with limited shade. You won’t find a fence, but the area is all on one level, the play structures are in line of sight of one another, and it’s not near any streets. The toddler structure has a couple of slides with one being a side-by-side double. But toddlers will be drawn to the tunnel slide over at the big kids’ structure, it seems to get bottle-necked with giggling bodies. This structure has horizontal bars, a longer slide, and a track glide with landing pads. The full-bucket swings and big kid swings are set part from the play structures which lowers the risk of kids running into the swing zone but poses a problem if you have multiple children still who need side-by-side assistance and want you to be at two different places at the same time. There is a bench strategically placed for child observing or grabbing that ever elusive conversation with a fellow adult.
It’s a great place to have a party with its unique advantages such as 30 picnic tables, 14 barbecues, 2 softball fields, 2 volleyball courts, 4 tennis courts, 2 horseshoe pits, and one soccer field.
Public Restrooms are clean and easily accessible.
Several drinking fountains.
Large lot behind police station.
Enclosed dog run Canine Commons and a community garden.
